'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith continues contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the nail-biting final moments of his team's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from distance, and Cameron Burgess quickly hammered in the rebound before charging toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result completed an extraordinary recovery given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the second half. In the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win secured a next round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's volley from about long distance going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for having a go from that distance," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before shifting to right wing-back after the team changed shape. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way Orient played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are very good but even the basics and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they complete every delivery and they are adept at control and neutralize a game. You can think you're all right and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It demands a strong mentality and focus just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Orient and has rapidly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without real physicality. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has shown that growth for his team and nation, shining for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the last several matches, including both legs fixtures against Germany. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

This marks a remarkable path for the kid from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his parent, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was sealed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The preceding week, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a minibus driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person out of the minibus and on the road. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on the Tube after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
